Psalm 84:10–For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Doorkeepers= a person attending or guarding a door or gateway. A modern day “USHER IN THE CHURCH.”
Are you excited when Sunday (the day of the Lord) comes? Does your hearts burn within when you think of the House of God?
Believe it or not, many people do not have a desire in their hearts to enter God’s House on Sunday mornings. They find one excuse after another as to why they should not go. Its too hot or cold, they are too busy, they are tired after working all week, they are too tired because they hang out all night, they do not feel like that church stuff on today, they do not understand what the preacher is saying, they do not believe there is a God. The list goes on and on.
David not only knew, but he understood the true value and importance of the dwelling place of the True and Living God.
Rather than being the least important task in the House of the Lord, as many so often think of it, a Doorkeeper was and is in fact, an awesome privilege. In God’s presence there is fullness of joy, love, peace and hope. Being a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord is truly an amazing responsibility.
The Doorkeeper was responsible for opening the gate of the Temple so people could come into the presence of the Lord. The Doorkeeper was also responsible for the rooms and treasuries of the Temple.
The greatest example in the Scripture of a Doorkeeper was Obededom. When David’s first attempt to return the Ark of the Covenant to Israel had failed, the Ark of the Covenant was placed in the house of Obededom and his household was blessed for 3 months because of it.The ark remained in Obed-Edom’s home for three months.
Afterwards, King David moved the ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem and placed it in the tabernacle he had constructed for it. At that time, Obededom guarded the temple gate; he became one of David’s doorkeeper of the Ark of the Covenant, a treasurer and a worshiper in the temple.
David boldly claims on today that he would rather chose a day in the courts of God and to be a doorkeeper of His house than to spend a thousand days dwelling in the tents of the wicked. WOW!!!
Let’s look for a moment at God’s view of David. This would help us understand why David declared that one day in God’s courts is better than a thousand days in the temple of wickedness doing evil.
When God was looking for a new King to reign over his people Israel, He sent the Prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse. God says to Samuel “Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.” Now, after seeing all of Jesse sons, except David, the Lord said that He has chosen none of them. Samuel inquire of Jesse “is there another son?” Jesse then sends for David and when David arrives, God declare these words concerning David; ” Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” David had obtained favor in the eyes of God.
In acts 13:22 David is declared by God as “A Man after God’s own heart.” What a powerful statement made by God concerning His servant David. Can God brag on us today? Can He count on us to make the same statement that David made about dwelling in God’s house? Have we purposed in our heart to serve God to the point where God would say that we too are men and women after his heart?
What Powerful Words Spoken here by David!! “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.” Or “Better is the one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.” I would rather be a doorkeeper of the house of God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked.
Is this your heart’s burning desires this morning as you prepare to to enter God’s house? We Christians need to learn to be satisfied in God alone. Our longings and desires and our affections should set on Him alone.
To dwell in God’s temple is not a boring place to be for Christians, as many would want you to think and believe. In fact, it is the best place that you could find yourself this blessed Sunday morning. What better place to spend Sunday morning than in the House of the Lord? There is none!!!
May we have a heart like David. May we have a burning desire and love for God that we too may boldly confess that a day in the Lord’s house is better than a thousand days elsewhere. God is everything. To have Him is to have all things needed for life. He is the life of our salvation and our righteousness.
Serving God may not come easy to you, but I can guarantee you one thing and that is “it will be worth it when we see Christ face to face.” Yes, there is a pay day coming after while. There is a crow awaiting those that are faithful.
I CAN ONLY HOPE AND PRAY ON TODAY AS YOU ENTER THE LORD’S HOUSE THAT YOUR DESIRE IS TO PLEASE GOD.
I HOPE AND PRAY THAT YOU TOO HAVE A HEART AFTER GOD.
KNOWING THAT YOU DO HAVE A HEART AFTER GOD, I KNOW THAT YOU TOO CAN BOLDLY SAY ” A DAY IN THE LORD’S COURT IS BETTER THAN A THOUSAND DAYS IN THE TEMPLE OF THE WICKED.”
REMEMBER THIS: A doorkeeper starts in the heart!!!
GOD BLESS AND TELL THE LORD THANK YOU!!!!
