Philippians 4:11-12 – Have You Learned To Be Content?



Philippians 4:11-12 – Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12-I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Content – A state of satisfaction. Satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else.

The Apostle Paul was glad for the contribution that the Philippian Christians had sent him and he rejoiced. One point Paul wanted to make was the fact that he was not joyful because of a sense of want. He said “Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever state I am.”

Contentment is a process that is learned through the good, bad, ugly rough and tough times. It is learned, not earned! You have to go through some things to learn contentment! Believe it or not, this world can throw some things at you sometimes that would make you want to go crazy, but because you have learned through the test and trials of life how to be content, you have not gone crazy.

Paul stated “I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry.” In other words, he learned a secret that made the difference in his life. That secret is ‘TO BE CONTENT IN WHATSOEVER STATE HE MAY FIND HIMSELF!”

Believe it or not, a lot of discontentment in the world today is due to covetousness. People wanting or desiring what they see someone else has. Stop letting what you see dictate your need. Stop always feeling the need to have or want bigger and better than the next person. True joy, peace, happiness and contentment does not come from covetousness. It comes from God and Him alone!

What most materialistic cultures do is try to fill a hole in the soul with a physical thing, a thing of man’s creation. And it NEVER works!

God is the only One that can fill our need for ultimate love, peace and security! GOD IS CONTENTMENT! HE IS THE MAKER AND CREATOR OF IT!

Jesus says in Luke 12:15 – And He said to them, And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

When will the people in this world learn that we are not what we possess?

We need to ask God to give us spiritual vision so that we may see His purpose in the trials of life, knowing that they all are working together for our good and according to His purpose for our lives. In other words, we must seek daily to learn how to be content with God.

Paul’s goal in life was to please God and to magnify God with his life. Paul was content in his life and he had learned that he could be in problems as well as in good time; and that God could, in fact, use his faith in those problems to glorify Himself.

Do you have this contentment that Paul speaks of on this morning?

Paul had to learn to be content. Contentment is something we all have to learn. It is a process that is obtainable with Christ.

Well on today, look no further because you have found him. His name is “JESUS!”

If you truly want to find the contentment that Paul speaks about today that is offered through a personal relationship with Christ, you must turn the pages, let go of the past and move on!

And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15-And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Truly, this Ministry is a blessing from God to mankind everywhere. No great works has any man done that he or she should boast! "TELL THE LORD THANK YOU" is indeed the Lord's will for you and I. God truly is an "AWESOME WONDER!" I love Him!! He is my Lord and Savior!!! Romans 8:31- If God be for you, who could be against you? It was Christ who died for us. 1 Thessalonian 5;18-Give thanks in all things for this is the Lord will concerning you and I in Christ Jesus. Matthew 6:33-But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.
