Hebrews 13:2-Who Are You Entertaining? Many Have Entertained Angels Unaware

Hebrew 13:2 – Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

The word angel here is the Greek word (aggelos), meaning messenger, and is the “exact” same word translated messenger.

The word translated “entertain strangers” is the Greek word (philoxenox), meaning to be friendly to those who you don’t know. This word is taken from the root words (philos) meaning friend, and (xenos) which here means someone with whom you are not acquainted. This is the only place where this is translated “entertain strangers”, it’s normal translation is hospitality.

This verse is saying always be hospitable or “friendly to those who you do not know” because thereby some have entertained (or hosted) messengers of God unaware. Therefore, be careful how you treat strangers. They just may be someone that God has sent your way to help you.

In fact, that Greek word (xenos) in certain contexts can mean any of three things. It can mean a stranger (alien), or a guest (being a stranger in your household), or a host (entertaining or be a host to a stranger to your household).

We must be very careful how we treat one another. Strangers or not. We do not know what God is doing or what He is trying to accomplish. We often pray and ask God for an answer or for help, God sends him or her and then we reject or deny them because they have not come in the way that we wanted or expected them to. When this happens, we miss out on that which we needed or what God had maybe wanted to bless us with that day.

Oh, if we could only trust God, pray, study His Word, believe and apply it to our lives, we would be so richly and abundantly blessed with all the promises that God has promised us.

As you venture out today and from this day forward. Pray to God that He will open your spiritual eyes so that we may be able to see the angels (messengers) that God has sent our way to help you in whatever your need may be. For many have entertained angels unaware!

Remember, we entertain angels unaware! Be alert! You may have just encountered one of your angels through this blog on today.

God bless and do remember to tell the Lord thank you for His messengers.

I love you all with the love of Christ.

About Minister Aiken

I am a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I received my call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 16, 2003 and I was licensed as a Minister on Sunday, December 30, 2007. I am an Associate Minister, Sunday School Teacher for Adult # 1 Class, Instructor for New Members Class, Youth Church Teacher, Senior Missionary, and Blogger. I have worked in the medical field for 31 years. I am the wife of one husband whom I have been married to for the last 27 years. Out of this union came one son. I have always been an advocate of God's Word even prior to salvation. Now that I am saved, I have taken it to another level with the help of the Holy Spirit. I am what others call "Radicle for Christ!" Yes, I LOVE JESUS! I started sending out daily devotional messages over 12 years ago via email. In March of 2011 the Lord told me that it was time for the daily devotionals to be taken to the world wide web. I did not understand how nor belive that God could use me for such a task as this, but thanks be to God who knows all things. I obeyed God and the rest was history. This ministry has truly been a blessing to the heart and soul of many that are saved and unsaved. Many lives have been changed, energized, transformed, restored, refreshed, and clansed by the Power of the Holy Spirit through God's spoken words from His Bible. Romans 10:14-15 - How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15-And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Truly, this Ministry is a blessing from God to mankind everywhere. No great works has any man done that he or she should boast! "TELL THE LORD THANK YOU" is indeed the Lord's will for you and I. God truly is an "AWESOME WONDER!" I love Him!! He is my Lord and Savior!!! Romans 8:31- If God be for you, who could be against you? It was Christ who died for us. 1 Thessalonian 5;18-Give thanks in all things for this is the Lord will concerning you and I in Christ Jesus. Matthew 6:33-But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.

I truly believe in angels and totally agree with what you have shared. For me personally, I KNOW I have experienced angels numerous times in my life. Here is one example of my experiences: http://aprilhawk.wordpress.com/2010/12/15/an-angel-corner-of-fifth-and-daviess/

    • Ann,

I read your story and it was very beautiful and touching. I felt the anointing as I read your story. I felt like you came from a Christian family by your writing. It is something about the way you right and speak about God that tells me that you have been walking with Him for a long time.

Praise be to God! Truly, He is a keeper of His people.

      Thanks for sharing your story.

God bless and I love ya.

Thank you for your sweet comment. I apologize for just now getting back with you. I have been off the computer since this past Friday. I will do that from time to time.
I was raised in the church. My father just retired from 47 years of ministry last summer.
Yes, God is a keeper of His people…I just wish more people would come to know Him and realize what he can do in any situation!!

      • Amen Ann.

I am in total agreement. The unsaved just do not know what they are missing by not having a relationship with God, Our Father.

God bless and I love ya.

I just want The Lord to bring out the best in me and being able to be heard when talking out.at times I’m so misunderstood and I’ve cried to god why…I want my father in heaven to be proud of me .my whole life to me has been a struggle.my main problem I want to help the world and realize I can’t. I’m always looking to help someone and always getting walked on….
It’s not in my nature to harm no one!

    • Joyce,

God is and will continue to get the best and the glory out of your life as long as you continue to submit in obedience to His will for your life.

On this christian journey, we will get hurt and we will encounter people that sometimes intend to hurt us and sometimes hurt us and are not even aware that they have done so.

Yes, our faith will be tested. James 1:3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

1 Peter 4:12-14 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

Continue to study God’s Word, stay focus on the ministry that He has put you in and be faithful there, continue to seek Him for direction, wisdom and guidance as to what it is He would have you to do.

If it is your desire to help, God will put opportunities in your path.

Philippians 4:6-7 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Remember, Jesus was misunderstood. Make pleasing Christ your goal. Put not your trust in man for man will deceive you. Trust God!

Stay in the Word of God for it is the place where you will find strength in the times of test and trials. It is your weapon or warfare.

The Word of God is the place to help keep you from growing weary in well doing. It is your life support as a Christian. Continue to eat it daily.

God will see you through this. Stay focus! Stay in prayer and the Word, this too shall pass.

      God bless.
