The remaining 10 verses of Matthew 2 speaks about how King Herod killed the infants in Bethlehem in his attempt to kill Jesus, and how God divinely made an escape route from this terror by coming to Joseph, through his angel, in a dream by night, instructing him to go to Egypt, wait to hear from Him again, and then from there to Nazareth.
Herod was a wicked ruler. He tried to destroy Jesus. In his attempt to destroy Jesus, he had all baby boys under 2 years old murdered. Can you imagine the terror and horror those mothers and families experienced from this selfish, ruthless act by Herod?
Let’s listen to what he did in Matthew 2:16-When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi of Jesus birth.
In God’s divine providence, wisdom, protection and guidance, Jesus was protected!
Joseph obeyed the voice of the Lord! God removed the earthly king Herod and replaced him with A Heavenly King to rule over His people! That King is “King Jesus”! He still rules and reigns today. He is seated at the right hand of God the Father! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!! LOOK AT GOD!!!!
“JESUS,”, the coming Messiah was indeed not welcome! “No Room at Bethlehem Inn” metaphorically, was a picture of how Jesus life would be. “REJECTED!” No room in the hearts of the people, including His own.
Let’s look at God’s divine providence and protection at work in the life of His Son, “Jesus” our Savior.
Matthew 2:13-23 – 13 And when they were departed (wise men), behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. 19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
As adopted children of God through Christ Jesus, we too have divine protection. Ephesians 1:5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Romans 8:31-32 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for divine favor and protection.
I love you all with the love of Christ!
