Matthew 24:12 – And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Waxed= means to grow, or increase in size; to grow; to become larger.
In chapter 24 of Matthew, Jesus fortells or gives a prophecy concerning the future to his disciples. The entire chapter is full of “WARNINGS” of what’s to come in the future. In other words, the signs of the end times. The end is not yet, but the beginning of great sorrow throughout the universe has begun.
Because of sin, the hearts of man has “waxed cold”! “Waxed cold” is another word for a stony heart. A hardened heart.
Why is the heart of man compared to a stone at all? Because, like a stone it is cold and hard. The bible calls it “waxed”! When are hearts are cold, it affects our hearing and our doing.
A waxed cold heart is a very bad heart condition. A heart that has no excitement about their relationship with God, a ground of soil (heart) that is so hard and stony that it prevents the Word of God from being sown into it and taking root. A heart that has no feelings for the things of God. A heart that is agitated by the Word of God. A waxed cold heart is often offended by the Gospel truth.
For the pleasure of sin many hearts have become waxed cold and many have denied Jesus! Oh how dangerous for Jesus declares in Matthew 10:33- But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
A waxed cold heart has no desires to push or enter into God’s presence. Jeremiah 17:9 -The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Acts 28:27- For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’
The issue is between living in darkness and walking in the light. The mind of the flesh at it’s best is but darkness. It thinks it is brilliantly cleaver, but in reality it is confused and lost because of it’s continued life of darkness. Darkness leads to eternal separation from God.
The Gospel does not make any sense to one whose heart has been harden towards it. 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
True wisdom can only come from God. Proverbs 1:3-5 Receive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity, 4 That prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth— 5 The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel (so that he may be able to steer his course rightly.)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. A fool says in his heart that there is no God!
Oh how prevalent has the hearts of many grown “waxed cold” in our world today, concerning God’s truth.
Our world is changing, and its doing so at a faster and faster pace and heading towards a uncertain future for many whose hearts have waxed cold. Many who are still living in unbelief of the Gospel truth.
Indeed, God’s truth is being compromised and rejected by many, including those who once proclaimed to have loved it. Why? Sin has settled into their hearts as truth and has caused their heart to become “waxed cold” concerning what is really the truth according to God’s Word.
Believe it or not, but a prideful heart is killing a lot people and they do not even know it. Pride is choking out their ability to love God from the heart. Pride is an open door for satan to come into our homes, our marriages, our family relationships, our work relationships, our schools, our churches and on and on.
If you are here on this site reading this blog and know that your heart has been harden concerning the things of God, you are not here by chance. God is speaking directly to you! On today, I urge you, I beg you, I plea with you on today to surrender to Jesus. Surrendering to Him means letting go of who you think you are and seeing yourself as God sees you. Admitting that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. You must be willing to be broken for the sake of salvation. Jesus is calling you! He says come unto me all ye that are labor and are a heavy laden and I will give you rest. A waxed cold heart is a heaven burden to carry. A yoke that must be destroyed!
If you are willing to surrender all to Jesus, including a heart full of pride, rebellion and selfishness, a heart that once loved and is now waxed cold, God is willing to give you a new heart. Ezekiel 36:26 -I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
Do we have a choice? Yes, everyone of us has one of two choices. Life or death! We can receive or reject the Gospel truth. Luke 20:17-19 And he (Jesus) beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
We can either fall on the stone and be completely broken to pieces or we can resist Him and have it one day fall upon us and smash us to dust.
Without this mindset to constantly be looking for and conquering willful sin, satan, in all his craftiness will begin to make us feel as though sin and compromise is ok because everyone else is doing it. Once we allow this to happen, sin starts creeping back into our hearts and our love will begin to harden like wax.
In all it’spleasure, what is sin worth to you? 2 Corinthisns 4:18-while we look not at what is seen for it is temprary, but what is unseen for it is eternal. The world and all its’s sinful pleasure will one day be done away with! What will you have left? What will it have profit you to loose your soul and gain the world which you will one day leav behind? What will be your eternal reward? That is a question to ponder!
If sin has abound in your heart and has caused it to become waxed cold, it is never too late to repent. Jesus will wash your heart clean and reheat it once again with the fire of the Holy Spirit. When wax is cold it is solid, but as it begins to heat up by the power of the Holy spirit, it begins to melt and when it has become hot it can then be poured into molds to shape it. It can flow through channels, if kept hot and therefore continue to move freely at God’s command.
Here are the rewards for a heart that was once waxed cold, but is now being melted by the heat of the power of the Holy Sprit. Only God can change a heart. Let’s listen to what God is saying to you!
Jeremiah 24:7 I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.
Philippians 2:13 -For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Romans 13:12-14- The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
When we have put away the sinful desires of the flesh, here is what God will do. Jeremiah 32:40 I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.
There is a cure for a “waxed cold heart” this morning. “JESUS” IS THE ANSWER! Will you allow Him to light your fire? Will you allow Him to enter into your heart so that it may become a fertile ground for love.
Do tell the Lord thank you for one day melting the wax in our hearts with his light from His burning furnace called the “Holy Spirit”!
I love you all with the love of Christ!
